Aesthetics of the Lips

Posted May 03, 2019 in Lip Augmentation

Thick, luscious lips are desired by many people, especially those who feel that their lips are the wrong shape for their face. The most desirable lip shape is typically a larger bottom lip and a defined cupid’s bow on the top, which compliments the overall structure of the face. Many options exist for plumping the lips, adding definition, and smoothing fine lines around the mouth. Dr. Grotting offers several treatment options to address aging skin and replace lost volume to provide youthful, full lips.

Lip Augmentation

Patients who are seeking guidance on which procedures may benefit them should schedule a lip augmentation consultation to learn what approach could be best for them. Lip augmentation can include various procedures, either alone or in conjunction with other treatments, depending on each patient’s goals and preferences. Hyaluronic fillers are the most common way of enhancing the lips and can beautifully restore or accentuate lip contours when applied artistically. Dr. Grotting can also use your own refined fat to accomplish a more permanent correction, especially in conjunction with facial rejuvenation.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is designed to renew skin and promote the creation of new, healthy skin cells. Brief pulses of high-intensity lasers are emitted and the upper layers of damaged, aging skin are removed, providing a rejuvenated, smooth appearance. This treatment improves the texture of the dermis in the targeted areas. Laser resurfacing in the area around the lips is used to smooth the wrinkles or “bar code” lines that can occur with aging. These are made worse by smoking or prolonged sun exposure.

Chemical Peel

Chemical peels use a formulation of oils and acids to dissolve the outer layer of damaged skin and generate new collagen in the layers below. The healing response of the skin enhances the smooth texture as you recover.

Fat Grafting

Facial fat grafting is a process of removing excess fat from the body, usually from the hips, thighs, stomach, or flanks, through liposuction. The fat cells are then purified and injected into the face to restore volume to specific areas.

Fillers

Injectable dermal fillers are available to plump specific areas of the face, including the lips, and add fullness to enhance facial contours. BELOTERO BALANCE®, JUVÉDERM®, RADIESSE®, and Restylane® are the most commonly used injectables to restore volume to the face and lips.

Lip Lift (Lip Shortening Procedures)

As we age, the upper lip often gets longer, so the upper teeth don’t show as much when we smile (the “dental show”). Shortening the upper lip with a small incision hidden at the base of the nose can restore a youthful smile and make the upper lip look a little fuller. Combined with lip augmentation, the lip lift procedure is a great way to restore the area around the mouth.
